Pineapples and hearts

I received a small pineapple plant this evening that has a small pineapple growing from a short stock. The little pineapple looks like it might have a little bit of rot on the fruit it self but the top is still bright green and happy. I was wondering if it was okay to leave the fruit intact on the stock and allow the top to continue as long as it is green? OR prune it and try growing a second plant from the fruit top? Any advice?

Second, I also received a plant known as "string of hearts". I don't know anything about this plant. Any info would be great! Thank you all!
